system to automatically create filters for image
processing based on genetic algorithms and mathematical
morphology. Experimental results show that the hybrid
system, implemented using a combination of a NIOS-II
processor and a custom hardware accelerator in an
Altera FPGA device, is able to generate solutions that
are equivalent to the software version in terms of
quality in approximately one third of the time.",
