Abstract:

By the coupling of the casting process simulation software MAGMASOFT(r) with the universal mathematical optimization tool modeFRONTIER the application of a genetic algorithm to casting process problems becomes reality. In this presentation, some successful applications of this software combination and the gained experience is discussed. In some of the projects the genetic algorithm leads to unusual and even surprising answers which have nevertheless performed well in practice. In several other cases the solutions basically confirm the knowledge of foundry engineers.
