abstract = "The evolutionary computation is a common name for the
optimisation methods imitating Darwinian findings about
evolution of the biological species and the survival of
the fittest. The common characteristic of the
evolutionary computation is that the optimum or near
optimum solution of the problem is formed gradually,
from generation to generation, similarly as nature acts
during the improvement and evolution of living beings.
We use genetic programming to predict the surface
quality of aluminium alloy. Two sets of experimental
data were used: first set to determine prediction model
by genetic programming for surface roughness and second
set to verify the model. The researches show very good
agreement between the experimental data and the
predicted values obtained by the model developed
genetically.",
