abstract = "We analyse in this paper the way randomness is
considered and used in ArtiE-Fract. ArtiE-Fract is an
interactive software, that allows the user (artist or
designer) to explore the space of fractal 2D shapes
with help of an interactive genetic programming scheme.
The basic components of ArtiE-Fract are first
described, then we focus on its use by two artists,
illustrated by samples of their works. These real life
tests have led us to implement additional components in
the software. It seems obvious for the people who use
ArtiE-Fract that this system is a versatile tool for
creation, especially regarding the specific use of
controlled random components.",
