abstract = "Using data previously prepared for other research
projects on machine learning at BT, some trials using
genetic programming (GP) techniques for commercial
problem solving were conducted. Three very distinct
applications were trialled. 1. Locating the eyes in
bitmap images of faces. 2.Predicting future trends in
the fluctuation of share prices. 3. Identifying
problematic modules in software systems from software
metrics. The purpose of the trials was to evaluate both
how effectively and how expensively (in terms of
computing time), such relatively difficult problems
might be solved using GP.",
