abstract = "This paper presents an initial study into the use of a
modified Genetic Algorithm (GA) in the analysis of
multivariate spectroscopic data that relates to rapid
screening for metabolite overproduction in the context
of process improvement in the pharmaceutical industry.
The development of a GA based method for both
wavelength selection and relationship modelling is
compared with that of a partial Least Squares
Regression (PLS) in the formation of a predictive model
of metabolite concentration. Initial results indicate
that the combination of a GA structure and alternative
mutation strategies is capable of producing a model
that is accurate in terms of predictive ability and
concise in the output expression produced.",
